Oak fireplace mantel and trumeau from the 19th century. A strong architectural structure and design. The center of the trumeau projects forward, the panel includes a frame for a painting decorated with rosettes on every corner. The cornice and rounded pediment above are adorned with an egg and dart motif. The panels against the wall on either side of the chimney breast continue the same decorations. The mantel shelf, with a carved motif of acanthus leaves, is slightly wider than the trumeau, and rests on pilasters classically designed with scrolled acanthus leaf cornices. The rounded slip has a beautiful decoration of grape vines heavy with fruit emerging from a central classical garden vase. Beautiful bold quality of carving.
