Antique Walnut wood mantel with a Bronze Plate with Putti

Beautiful antique walnut wood mantel from the 19th century, with columns - a relatively rare design. The columns here are fully detached, adorned with a bay leaf motif at their base, they are fluted and their capitals are garnished with small rosettes. The large multi tiered entablature above presents a remarkable bronze bas relief framed in wood. The scene playfully depicts of a group of putti making a fire, while others add wood or dance, play with a dog or applaud the warmth. Acanthus leaves fill either side of the bas relief, alternating with thistle flowers. The powerful entablature rises to a broad cornice.
