Carrara marble mantel with Vulcan's forge cartouche

Of Neoclassical inspiration this white mantel allies the simplicity of Louis XVI style lines and Renaissance motifs. This mixture of styles is typical of the 19th century. The jambs are entirely decorated in the grotesque mode : cups and bouquets of fruits and flowers create vertical decoration. Interlaced acanthus leaf swirls run across the entablature; a cartouche carved in bas relief is placed at the center of this frieze representing men working in a forge dressed in antique togas. The reference of this scene is probably to Vulcan’s forge, a very popular decorative motif in the arts. However such iconography is rare and therefore precious in a mantel. The floral and antique themes are typical of the Louis XVI style.

Beautiful Louis XVI period fireplace with detached columns

This beautiful fireplace was made at the end of the 18th century in Breche de Sienne marble and Carrara marble and shows an exceptional sculpted decor of delicacy. Its shape imitates the Antique architectural model of temples. Indeed, we can see the feet sculpted as detached columns in Breche de Sienne marble, their upper parts are adorned with small sculpted flowers and the capital with delicate friezes of pearls and ovum. They support a two colours entablature composed of elements in Carrara marble framing a strip of Breche de Sienne marble. The sculpted decor under the slab shows also the technical achievement of the sculptor who has made a delicate decoration of acanthus leaves, dentils and pearls. This fireplace is sold without any fireplace insert nor marble floor but could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).

Louis XV style wood fireplace with a beautiful shell

This fireplace with curved lines, typical of the Louis XV style, was made in wood at the end of the 19th century. Its serpentine entablature is adorned on its center with a large and beautiful shell framed with acanthus leaves, it is underlined with an oblong moulding. The curved jambs that support it are also adorned with Rococo elements such as the acanthus leaves or the stylized shell.

Rare fireback with Louis XIV monogramm and French arms, circa 1700

This beautiful cast iron fireback made around 1700 is adorned with a rare and rich decoration. Its shape is characteristic of the 18th century beginning, the top in an arc of a circle form is supported by two roosters whose bodies are lost in the sinuous lines of ancanthus leaves scrolls. On the center, the interlaced L of Louis XIV are stylized in laurel branches, they frame the Sun King mascaron on top of which was put the Royal crown. We also find below the three fleur-de-lis from the France's arms.

Fireback with a very rich decoration of the Old Testament

This squared fireback was made in cast iron on the late 19th century. It depicts a very rich decoration composed of angels and sphinxes on each corner and up and down some mascarons, in a scrolls decoration framing a scene from the Old Testament on the center on which we can see characters dressed with drapery walking in the same direction.

Louis XV style fireplace in Carrara marble

Antique mantel carved in white Carrara marble during the 19th century. The slightly curved entablature is adorned in the centre with a beautiful upside down leafy shell from which large acanthus leaves emerge, classical Louis XV style ornamentation. This is enhanced by the carved motifs that surround it such as vertical ribbons, plant motifs including flowers, leaves and corncobs, as well as the oblong mouldings above and below the shell. The console jambs are beautifully carved with curves and counter curves of large beaded acanthus leaves surrounded by flowers on the head and scrolled foliage on the feet.

Small Regence period mantel in Sarrancolin Ilhet marble

This Regency period fireplace is carved in Sarrancolin Ilhet, a marble quarried near the village of Ilhet in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Sarrancolin Ilhet is a variety of Sarrancolin marble with predominantly grayish-brown colors. On this fireplace, there is no distinct separation between the band and the legs, but rather a continuity of surface and motifs. This continuity is reflected in the moldings: a curved molding defines the lower contour of the fireplace and a straight molding determines the surface of the fireplace, in which two triangles are placed. Both the inner molding and the mantelpiece are curved, a feature often found in the Regency style. The fireplace’s symmetry also reinforces its harmony.

Louis XVI style fireplace in white demi-statuary marble with light grey veining. Its shelf, gently rounded at the corners, rests on a straight entablature. The central panel is adorned with a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon, extended on each side by carved laurel branches. Fine mouldings frame the whole composition. The jambs are formed of fluted half-columns, set on rectangular plinths and topped with Corinthian capitals, recognisable by their finely carved acanthus leaves. A subtle inner moulding outlines the opening of the firebox. The cast-iron insert features a central laurel wreath surrounded by vegetal garlands, with additional floral motifs in relief on the sides. The hearth slab is in matching marble.

Empire style fireplace in blue Turquin marble with statuary marble columns

This Empire-style fireplace was crafted in Bleu Turquin marble and statuary marble. Bleu Turquin displays its characteristic oblique veining in deep blue-grey tones, while the statuary marble, used for the columns and certain decorative panels, provides a bright and even contrast. The overall form follows a straight, architectural structure typical of the Empire style. The mantel shelf, with gently softened edges, rests on a simple entablature where a large horizontal band in statuary marble forms the central panel. On either side, two lateral blocks mark the returns and frame the façade. The fire opening is surrounded by a straight Bleu Turquin marble frame. Two pairs of engaged columns, also in statuary marble, rise from Bleu Turquin bases and give the façade its visual rhythm. The fireplace is adorned with several carved decorations. The large central panel features a finely carved vegetal garland composed of layered leaves and small flowers arranged in a symmetrical composition. The two side panels, also in statuary marble, are decorated with shallow-relief sculpted wreaths. The statuary marble columns are topped with moulded capitals, with the bases and collars accentuated by a dark Bleu Turquin band. The cast iron interior is decorated with a prominent relief: in the centre, a classical chariot drawn by horses and led by a male figure, likely Helios, stands out in gilt against the black background. The interior jambs each bear a vertical motif composed of a sphinx surmounted by a stylised vase or urn, also in gilt cast iron. The whole ensemble is structured, symmetrical, and characteristic of the Empire aesthetic, in which antique themes are frequently reproduced.
