Semi-statuary marble mantel made in 1960

Small French Regence style mantel carved out of a beautiful, slightly veined semi-statuary marble. Using the basic design of the later Louis XIV style mantel, the entablature here is curved in a typically French Regence manner. The front is adorned with an asymmetrical foliaged cartouche, flanked on both sides by molded panels and protruding spandrels. The double panel design on the jambs is both sober and elegant.

Antique Louis XVI style fireplace mantel with round corners in Griotte marble and gilt bronze ornaments

This antique Louis XVI style fireplace was made in the 19th century in a Griotte type marble, with a matching three-square marble floor . This round-cornered model features two fluted pilasters with gilt bronze asparagus, and three golden bronze rosettes, the one in the entablature's center is flower-shaped. The luminosity of the marble, speckled with many colors, is enhanced by the bronze's gold.

Glazed earthenware cachepot with engraved decoration including four quadrilobed medallions adorned with scenes from everyday life: men fishing, go game, Japanese calligraphy, men chatting. Between the medallions unfolds a decor of interlacing and flowers on a blue background characteristic of the Japanese decorations. This cachepot was made in France during the 19th century.

Fireback "Allegory of Winter"

This cast iron fireback was made in the late 19th century. Shaped as a square, it is adorned with an allegory of Winter detaching on a rococo frame on a background composed of diamonds adorned with flowers. Beautiful acanthus leaves scrolls come to underline this decoration, while small shells come to adorn the superior angles. Winter is depicted by an old man covered with a drapery warming up near a fire. A fireback with a similar decoration is illustrated in the book of Henri Carpentier "Firebacks".

Curved Louis XVI style mantel in Arabescato marble decorated with a laurel wreath

This Louis XVI-style fireplace is in Arabescato marble, a white marble veined with gray or black. It is one of the white marbles of Carrara, and its main quarries are located in the Carrara basin in Italy, at Seravezza Lucca. The band of this fireplace is defined by moldings forming a rectangle carved into the marble. At the center of this rectangle are multiple laurel leaves and their fruits, which separate into two asymmetrical parts and meet at their ends outside the frame to form an oval at its center. The inside of the oval is invested with a wavy, knotted ribbon. From this center, two long laurel branches extend along the sides of the band, framed by the rectangle of moldings. The console parts of the leg are adorned with a framed floral motif, formed by acanthus leaves and a central high-relief bud. The top of the leg is curved by the presence of scrolls on the sides of the leg. The face of the leg features superimposed acanthus leaves plunging downwards. The rest of the leg is fluted and ends in a scroll. The central flute is adorned with pearls. This fireplace is characterized by a blend of natural motifs, such as flowers and foliage, with motifs from Antiquity, such as the use of acanthus flowers, laurel crown, and column fluting. This mix is typical of the Louis XVI style, to which we can add the presence of ribbons and pearls, also characteristic of this style.
