Antique large Louis XV style fireback with Diana and the sages, 18th century

This Louis XV style cast iron fireback was made in the 18th century. In a central cartouche, a mythological goddess is depicted talking with bearded men. A moon crescent on her forehead refers to Diana (Artemis in Greek) or Luna (Selene in Greek), two goddesses connected with the moon. 18th century ornaments are surrounding this scene : grid alternating florets, bearded old profiles, acanthus and scrolls.

Louis XVI style trumeau with floral basket

Louis XVI style trumeau in white painted wood dating from the second half of the 19th century. The mirror is framed by a frieze of pearls and a frieze of ribbons. The top of the trumeau is decorated with garlands of flowers tied with a ribbon to which is attached a flowery basket.

Louis XV period stone mantel with carved overmantel

This stone mantel from the Louis XV period is distinguished by its rich decoration, borrowing from the ornamental vocabulary of the Rocaille style. The mantel's trumeau is also very elaborate, a Baroque characteristic. The lower part of the lintel features double curves that wrap around the center of a shell motif, typical of the Louis XV period. The shell in relief is asymmetrical, surrounded by scrolls with wing, foliage, and shell motifs. The rest of the entablature comprises fine moldings, in which acanthus leaves and sinuous flower threading extend. On the front of the curved legs, lines of rocaille, shell, and acanthus leaf motifs intertwine. These motifs were widely used under Louis XV, borrowing from the Rocaille style. On the inner side of the legs, foliage grows upwards from the base of the jambs and imposes itself on the lintel, creating a curvature at the level of the moldings. The overmantel, like the fireplace, is richly decorated. At the top of the overmantel, a female mask is the central element around which the decorations are organized. A garland of flowers adorns the top of her head, while sinuous lines of leaves and shells surround her. Beneath this figure is a frame decorated with a cartouche of aquatic motifs adorned with a small central flower. The frame is made of raised moldings, alternating between straight and curved lines. On either side of the overmantel stand two symmetrical, straight columns. At the top of the column is an assembly of acanthus leaves. At the top of the shaft, we find the shell motif, from which scrolls and a leaf develop. At the bottom of the shaft, a shell and curves echoing the rock and shell motifs rise to the top.

Curved Louis XVI style fireplace with beaded decoration, in semi-statuary marble.

This curved Louis XVI–style fireplace was crafted in demi-statuaire marble, a white material lightly veined with grey. The mantel shelf features a softened profile and sober lines that follow the overall curve of the façade. The entablature is enhanced with a beaded frieze forming a regular band and framing a central carved decoration. The structure adopts a slightly curved façade, characteristic of late Louis XVI models. The frieze is long and rectilinear, punctuated by a band of linked leaves carved in low relief. The curved jambs rest on simple block bases and present an elegant, elongated silhouette. The fireplace is adorned with carved decoration distributed across several areas. At the centre of the frieze is a large motif composed of a central knot with foliage and trailing ribbons. Long, ribbed leaves unfold horizontally on each side, following the length of the façade. A row of beads frames the whole at both the top and bottom. The blocks above the jambs each display a square floral motif, carved in relief, with radiating petals around a small central medallion. The jambs are decorated with large overlapping acanthus leaves that follow the curved profile and extend the ornamentation vertically. The cast iron interior is present and features a black surface decorated with repeating relief motifs. The side panels show a series of slightly sinuous vertical ribs, while the corners are enriched with fine volutes.
