This antique fireback was made in the 18th century. At its center is represented the Jansenist badge with the three Theological Virtues. Faith is thus depicted as a blindfolded woman while Hope is represented by an anchor and Charity by a flaming heart. This medallion is surrounded by a Latin inscription "Ardet Amans Spe Nixa Fides" which means "Faith, relied on Hope, burning with the fire of Charity." This sentence appeared in the frontispiece of all Jansenists books. At the top, wa can see the Hebrew tetragrammaton. From either side of the medallion are the Cardinal Virtues : Fortitude, Justice, Temperance and Prudence. Jansenism is a movement first religious, then political and philosophical that develops in the 17th and 18th century in France and is based exclusively on the doctrine of St. Augustine. This doctrine develops mainly against the evolution of the Catholic Church and royal absolutism. This theological doctrine takes its name from Cornelius Jansen, Bishop of Ypres, who writes the founding text. An other fireback with the same model is known in the Abbaye of Orval, south of Belgium.

This woodwork element features delicate carved ornamentation. At the base, a rectangular frame is highlighted by a motif of bundles tied with ribbons. In the center, the opening is formed by a frame forming an arched arch sculpted with a torus of foliage topped by a knotted ribbon; the spandrels are adorned with flowers. At the top, the four corners of the frame are decorated with small square rosettes; the corners of the surrounding frieze of bundles, echoing the lower part of the panel, are turned inward. The entire piece displays high-quality craftsmanship in its carving. Woodwork elements can be sold separately.

This overmantel is characterized by rich, detailed decoration. It is surmounted by a finely worked openwork shell and multiple surrounding motifs. It is surrounded by scrolls, sinuous acanthus leaves, and multiple flowers, recurring motifs of the Regence style. On either side of this central ornament, moldings form spaces in which repeating geometric motifs take their place. The mirror's curved edges follow its rectilinear, curved contours. Geometrical motifs, palmettes, and flowers, also often used in the Regency style, are used on this border.
