Théodore DECK (ceramist) and Anthony Ludovic REGNIER (painter) - Ceramic dish glazed with tiger lily and butterfly on a blue background

This glazed ceramic dish was made in the workshop of the ceramist Théodore Deck (1823-1891) and painted by Anthony Ludovic Régnier (1851-1930) in 1881. It is signed in the decor "A. L. REGNIER" and dated in "1881". In the back, it wears the mark "TH. Deck" ; it is entitled "LIS TIGRE" and bears the number "160". Théodore Deck initially trained as a stove maker. When he set up in Paris on his own account in 1858, he made stove linings and then, on the strength of his success, moved into ceramics. The studio produced many dishes in collaboration with well-known painters, including Anthony Ludovic Régnier. Deck gradually perfected his technique and enjoyed great success at the many World’s Fairs he took part in. In 1878, he was made an Officer of the Légion d'Honneur. He ran the Sèvres factory between 1887 and his death in 1891. Anthony Ludovic Régnier was a prolific artist from the workshop of Théodore Deck, specialising in flower paintings. He is otherwise little known. The painter's mastery is evident in his particularly precise and detailed depiction of the tiger lily, whose flowers are in various stages of bloom. A bindweed flower curls around its stem, adding complexity to the pattern. A butterfly flutters around the lily, as does a small yellow and black striped insect. This work is a fine example of the Japonism that swept through European art from the 1870s until the early years of the 20th century, and which particularly influenced Théodore Deck, a collector of Far Eastern art. The Musée des Arts décoratifs, de la Faïence et de la Mode in Marseille has a dish with daturas and nasturtiums by Deck, decorated by Régnier. The different flowers give the decoration great variety.

Louis XVI style overmantel in painted wood and stucco with flowers garlands

This overmantel was made in the second half of the 19th century in stucco and wood painted in white. Its elegant decoration is typical of the Louis XVI style, the mirror is framed with friezes and the corners are marked by a square rose. A very rich flowers crown hold by a knotted ribbon is over it. The overmantel's sides are also adorned in their upper and lower parts with roses garlands. This overmantel can eventually be paired with the reference 12737.

Beautiful Louis XV style fireplace in Red of the North marble

This wonderful fireplace made in the late 19th century out of Red of the north marble, takes the esthetic codes of the Louis XV fireplaces. With curves and counter-curves, the jambs are adorned with small shells on their upper part, they frame the serpentine entablature decorated with a remarkable shell on the center, underlined with an oblong moulding.

This trumeau was made in the late 19th century in wood and stucco painted in white. The mirror with the curved top is framed with pearled and ovum friezes and surmounted by a projecting roses crown. The pediment painted in blue sky is adorned with a flowers garland painted in gold.

Louis XV period gilded trumeau with sconces and decorated with a painting

This wooden overmantel is from the Louis XV period. It is composed of several frames, including a mirror, a painting, and sconces. The frame of the mirror is adorned with numerous leaves and small flowers, forming a symmetrical design. At the top center of the mirror is a shell surrounded by numerous small volutes. The presence of the shell changes the direction of the frame's lines, creating curves and counter-curves. This frame is attached to the painting frame by two links. The frame of the painting uses the same motifs as the one below, but this time the top is adorned with a palmette surrounded by numerous flowers and curved lines of acanthus leaves and shells. This frame surrounds a painting of four putti forging arrows in a cave. On the overmantel are two symmetrical sconces, created from the leaf motifs of the frames. These sconces are framed by moldings that end in scrolls. At the bottom of the moldings, bouquets emerge from shells. At the top are shells from which a waterfall of three flowers emerges.

Louis XVI style mantel with pilaster feet carved in veined Carrara marble

This fireplace features a mix of Ancient Greek motifs and vegetation, a typical Louis XVI combination. On the band are two distinct friezes, one of leaves and the other of pearls, recurring motifs under Louis XVI. A flower in relief is carved on the console part of the legs. It is composed of a central bud and leaves turning around it. The rest of the legs feature carved pilasters interspersed with field flowers. At the top garlands of laurel leaves encircle the pilaster, adding dimension to the leg. Carrara marble also adds dimension to the fireplace, with its gray veins standing out against the white background. This fireplace comes with its original cast-iron interior, featuring geometric and plant motifs in keeping with the Louis XVI-style.
