Four leather and brass doors

On all the doors, the front is made up of leather and brass. The back of door 1 is fitted with a mirror. The back of door 2 is exactly the same as the front. Wooden moulding covers the back of door 3. The back of door 4 is also moulded, and decorated with a rosette. All the doors have the same dimensions.

Modern fireback with Chinese-style decoration illustrating "The Great Mogul"

20th century cast iron fireback illustrating "The Great Mogul". The chinoiserie is a caracteristic of the Louis XV Rocaille style. A lot of chinoiserie was designed by Boucher, adapted also to furniture, objets d'art, materials, and porcelain. A very similar fireback is in the Musée of Orleans. CHINOISERIE, decorative work produced under the influence of Chinese art, applied particularly to the more fanciful and extravagant manifestations. Intimations of Eastern art reached Europe in the Middle Ages in the porcelains brought by returning travelers. Eastern trade was maintained during the intervening centuries, and the East India trading companies of the 17th and 18th cent. imported Chinese lacquers and porcelains. Dutch ceramics quickly showed the influence of Chinese blue-and-white porcelains. In the middle of the 18th cent. the enthusiasm for Chinese objects affected practically every decorative art applied to interiors, furniture, tapestries, and bibelots and supplied artisans with fanciful motifs of scenery, human figures, pagodas, intricate lattices, and exotic birds and flowers. In France the Louis XV style gave especial opportunities to chinoiserie, as it blended well with the established rococo . Whole rooms, such as those at Chantilly, were painted with compositions in chinoiserie, and Watteau and other artists brought consummate craftsmanship to the style.

"Leda and the Swan", small Louis XV style fireback, 19th century.

This small squared Louis XV style fireback was made in the 19th century. In a Rococo decoration where are represented stylized shells, acanthus leaves scrolls and flowers, is depicting the "Leda and the Swan" scene. Zeus transformed into a swan, was followed by Venus changed into an eagle, he threw himself in Leda's arms while she was near the Eurotas river. After nine months she gave birth to two eggs, from the first Helen and Polydeuces were born, considered as Zeus's children, from the other, Castor and Clytemnestra were born, considered as children of Tyndareus, Leda's husband. A similar model is kept in the Orleans Museum, and illustrated in Henri carpentier's book "Firebacks".

Fireback with a very rich decoration of the Old Testament

This squared fireback was made in cast iron on the late 19th century. It depicts a very rich decoration composed of angels and sphinxes on each corner and up and down some mascarons, in a scrolls decoration framing a scene from the Old Testament on the center on which we can see characters dressed with drapery walking in the same direction.
