Ceramic vase with a floral relief decoration, Amphora factory

Dimensions
Width 11'' ¾  30cm
Height 11'' ⅜  29cm

Origin:
Austria, circa 1900.

A spectacular piece with its high-relief floral decoration, this vase bears the impressed mark of the renowned Amphora factory on its base. Founded in the late 19th century in Turn-Teplitz, Austria (present-day Czech Republic), Amphora's production reached its peak between 1894 and 1904 with works blending plants, animals, mythical creatures, and biomorphic motifs inspired by the worlds of Klimt and Mucha. This period marked the factory's golden age until the departure of Paul Dachsel in 1903 and Eduard Stellmacher in 1904, thus sealing the end of an era of creativity and innovation that made Amphora one of the leading names in artistic ceramics. Our vase was created during this flourishing period and belongs to the Jugendstil movement (the Art Nouveau of the German-speaking world). The taste for Japonisme is evident in the choice of a whimsical flower resembling a strange marine organism and in the plant motifs. The flowers appear to float on a bluish background, lending a dreamlike atmosphere to the design.
