This unique Napoleon III style mirror was made out of wood and gilded stucco circa 1880. This mirror has bevelled mirrors.
The carved decoration is absolutely magnificent : two sphinxes with outspread wings are placed back to back on either side of the base of the mirror (see our article about sphinx ). The fineness of the faces of the women attests to the extreme attention to the achievement of this exceptional mirror.
The upper part of the mirror is crowned with a mask of satyr, bearded, with openwork foliage.
The attention to décor of this mirror is of a rare preciousness and is characteristic of the eclecticism in the late 19th century French decorative arts.
