The Bolection mantel is specific to the kings Louis XIII and Louis XIV. Of rectangular shape, it is decorated with a large molding that runs along the jambs and entablature. Red Griotte marble was a great favorite for making fireplaces.
Red griotte was the marble favored for the royal apartments of the 18th century. Its most prestigious use was for the fireplace mantel in the Office of King Louis XIV in Versailles Palace, and was considered to be the most luxurious of all marbles until the end of the 19th century.
This fireplace is sold without any insert or hearth, but they can be made to order.
