This exceptional antique Louis XV style fireplace was made out of white Carrara marble during the 19th century. The carved decor is of really high quality. A shell embedded with curved acanthus leaves decorates the centre of the entablature. Under these acanthus leaves, vegetal carved in high-relief falls, and flowers escape from the vegetal. All of this is part of a very rare sculpting detail known as "queue de cochon" (pig's tail). The curved entablature is decorated at both ends with pearled acanthus leaves. The highly cante jambs are also highly decorated. The curved lower part of the jambs are decorated with a large acanthus leave. The upper part of the jambs are carved with a turned over shell.
This fireplace is sold without any fireplace insert nor marble floor but these could be made to order.
